PERMITS

Work or settle in Switzerland: L-G-B-90 days permits

Switzerland offers a diverse range of residence and work authorizations tailored to different professional and personal circumstances, ranging from long-term residency to short-term project work. The B permit serves as a primary residency authorization for those settling long-term, while the short-term L permit is designed for temporary contracts, internships, or medical stays. For individuals living in neighboring countries and commuting to Switzerland, the G permit facilitates cross-border employment, and the 90-day authorization provides a streamlined notification process for short-term EU service providers. Navigating these various categories requires a precise understanding of cantonal quotas, federal regulations, and specific eligibility criteria.

To ensure your application is submitted under the correct legal framework, Legal Expat’s in-house immigration specialists provide comprehensive consultations to evaluate your specific situation, verify your documentation across all permit types, and deliver a clear, expert strategy for your legal stay or work in Switzerland.

Short-term authorisation to work or reside in Switzerland

The “L” permit can be granted for temporary employment, for an internship after academic studies or to follow medical treatment. The short-term “L” permit is often granted to non-EU skilled workers or for an independant activity.

Cross-border workers

The “G”permit or cross-border permit allows any EU/EFTA citizens to work in Switzerland while living in a neighboring EU country as long as they go home once a week.
EU workers can apply for a G permit no matter where they live.

A cross-border worker can apply for a “G” permit online. EU/EFTA citizens can start working immediately.
